what am I doing?

I recently came into possession of 100′s of LP’s, many of which were things that I was familiar with, but hadn’t really ever actively listened to. Sure, I’d heard of Jethro Tull and Little Feat, but not their whole catalog one by one, both sides, for better or worse. This collection spans 60′s, 70′s and 80′s music that definitely overlaps with my tastes and interests at times, but mostly delves deeply into genres and artists that I haven’t yet. While listening to all of this track for track may prove painful at times, I’m doing it because a) I’d like to give all of it a fair chance to be liked or not b) it’s proven to be a useful exercise in tracking my own evolving tastes and interests and c) someone else took the time to build this collection and I have absolutely no personal stake in any of it, which means I won’t unwittingly justify something because I bought it.

Who knows, maybe it’ll be a horrible idea, but it’s been a blast so far and the best use I found yet of a blog for me. I hope to begin adding broadcasts and samples of stuff I find along the way.

This idea should have continued rather than died on the vine. I’m sorry it did, but I’m not apologizing for 2007, ’08, ’09, etc. I’ve been buying ridiculous amounts of vintage hi-fi gear to place all around to make the process of listening to his music easier. I don’t want to just write about these albums though. So I’m not going to.
